RSEQ Week #4

Thursday at Laval

BU                   17       12       19       21   -   69
UL                   20       19       20       22   -   81

We continued to struggle as we came out of the weekend with 2 losses making it 3 losses in a row for the first time this season. Our league is very tight top to bottom and if you don’t play well you can expect to lose.

The last time we played Laval it was a wide open game with lots of transition. Both teams did a much better job slowing each other down, but the difference was that Laval was more efficient in the half court with some bench players doing a nice job offensively.

In neither game this weekend did we ever get into much of an offensive flow. The break comes a good time as we really need to get back to some basics on both sides of the ball.

Kevin and Nervens each had 16 points to lead us in scoring. We got Joany back in the line-up this weekend, but he was not as effective after 3 weeks off with a calf injury.

Saturday vs. McGill

BU       15       13       14       14   -   56
MU      20       8         17       23   -   68

We played about 30+ minutes of the best defense we had played in a while despite 1 day prep for McGill. They jumped out to a quick 10-0 lead in the first 2 minutes. We then defended pretty well until the final 6 minutes of the game…then we just stopped doing the things we had done well.

We did dominate the glass outrebounding McGill 53-37, but 25 turnovers against a team that was not pressing or trapping us was our undoing. Like I said, we have some things to clean up and December will be good for that.

Nervens had 16 points again. Kevin, Abdul & Joany each added 10. Rookie Emile Babin had a nice game off the bench with 10 rebounds.

That ends our games til after Christmas which gives us chance to lick our wounds and regroup.  We sit at 3-3 in league play which is the middle of the pack. Not much separates the top from the bottom of our league and it should all be pretty interesting in the 2nd half of the season!

I hope everyone has a happy and safe holiday season!
