RSEQ Week #9

Saturday vs.  #10 Concordia

BU            9    15    23    23   -   73
CU           14    19    15    20   -   71

A lot of reasons to want to win this game…Seniors’ Night, key recruits on campus and most importantly, our season was kind of on the line. It was not exactly must win, but it was pretty close to that. Anyhow, this win (and Laval’s loss to UQAM) put us in a spot where we now control our own playoff fate. Laval has 2 games left, we have 1 vs. UQAM…any Laval loss or BU win puts us in. Potential to finish as high as 3rd, but some things have to happen. Our focus is simply win Saturday at UQAM! Game time is 6 PM by the way and not 8 PM as usual.

Abdul with a game high 26 points
Pretty poor 1st half offensively as we had 14 turnovers including 9 in the 1st Q. Many were unforced. The blame for that goes to our alum Chris Forsythe as he broke section 1.2-A  of Murphy’s Law when he said ‘it looks you figured out the turnover problem last weekend vs. Laval.’ That was the kiss of death and there was nothing wooden around for me to touch or knock on to combat his exclamation! That only lasted for a half though as we had a much more manageable 4 turnovers after the break.

With fewer turnovers we were much more efficient offensively as one would expect despite shooting 2-16 from 3. We were able to find ways to score at the rim and get to the foul line. Defensively we were very good, but did not always reward ourselves though as ConU out worked us on the glass grabbing 23 offensive rebounds. Our worst rebounding game of the year, but full credit goes to our opponent as they competed harder in that area.

Throughout the 2nd half the game was tight. Kevin Davis came through again at the end putting us ahead by 1 with 15 seconds left in the game on a nice driving layup. Our defense held on the next possession, Concordia fouled, we made 1 of 2 free throws and ConU missed an attempt at the buzzer…game over.

Our graduating Seniors…Kevin Davis, Andrew Howarth, Abdul Kamane and Duncan Lambert all got the start.  Abdul got back into form after struggling to score recently. He had 26 points and played a solid all around game. Kevin Davis had another clutch winning hoop on his way to 13 points. Andrew had 8 points and 6 rebounds playing with his usual consistency. Jordan Thornhill came off the bench to score 10 points and grab 8 rebounds. Played well defensively and is getting better each game.

As previously mentioned, we close out league play at UQAM on Saturday. Game time is 6 pm. Hope to see you there!
